Clean drinking water for over 100 years is no small feat.

Kennebunk, Kennebunkport and Wells Water District (KK&W) has supplied clean drinking water to the area since 1921. Their high water safety standards continue through today, and they have partnered with Hanna Instruments to ensure their systems are up-to-date for years to come!

The History

Portrait of a young woman drinking water in the kitchen at homeSince 1921, the KK&W has provided clean and safe drinking water from both surface water and groundwater sources. The treatment plant regularly treats 6.5-7 million gallons of water daily during the summer months, and then in the winter they can drop down to 1.6 million gallons of water a day. This volume drop directly correlates to the surge in tourists to Maine in the summer months. This ebb and flow of the volume of water, as well as the typical seasonal changes that water treatment plants battle, makes it tricky to balance the drinking water correctly. This is especially true for chlorine and ensuring that there is the right amount of residual chlorine to keep the water safe.

Switching to Hanna Instruments Testing Equipment

After meeting at a tradeshow KK&W and Hanna Instruments struck up a partnership for chlorine monitoring. KK&W started using our inline chlorine analyzers with built-in pH all the way back in 2010. The PCAs use EPA approved methods for measuring chlorine. There are seven PCAs in use throughout the KK&W municipality. The PCAs are integrated with the current SCADA system allowing the team to monitor in real-time no matter where they are in the district. If readings are off the KK&W team gets alerts right away and they are much better able to adjust their treatments as needed.

In addition to the PCAs, the KK&W team uses a HALO Wireless pH Meter to check their systems weekly during their physical testing of their drinking water treatment system.

"The Hanna Tech support team really knows the PCAs inside and out. We work very well together."

- Lynn Mankin, Operator at KK&W

A Lasting Partnership

Relying on the partnership with Hanna for instrumentation and for customer service has helped KK&W meet their water testing needs. The ease of use and reliable results means there's no second-guessing. Affordable upkeep is an added bonus!
